Yes! That’s right! There’s an eyeglass frame for every face. No matter what face shape you have - Round, Oval, Square or Triangle. There’s a frame made just for you. Frames look best when they complement the facial form. The most flattering eyeglass frames are those that are the right depth and width for the face. Usually, a flattering frame shape is opposite to the face shape. For example, a squared face looks good in round or oval shape frames, not angular frames.
Every season brings a new exciting collection, and probably we all want to follow the trends and make a statement. We should try and make a selection based on the shape of our face, because if it is a good visual, automatically it would make a statement. The right frame will provide balance to face, correcting and harmonizing its features.
About our face shapes: almost no one has a perfect face shape rather it be heart, circle, square, oval or any other category. Most faces are combinations of a few different shapes like rounded chins and tall foreheads, angular features and tapered jaws, etc.
According to the Vision Council there are 3 rules that should be followed when you are selecting the best frame for your face shape.
- Eyewear should compliment your personal best feature. For ex – Match the frames for blue eyes with blue frames or green eyes with green frames.
- The frame shape should contrast with the face shape.
- The frame size should be in scale with your face size.
Once you’ve recognized your face shape, you can find which frame shape will bring a natural balance to your face.
Identifying Face Shapes
- Oval: Chin is slightly narrower than the forehead and the cheekbones are high. Face length is greater than the width of the cheekbones, and forehead is greater than the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded rather than sharp.
- Rectangle: Face length is the greatest measurement. Forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.
- Triangular: Jawline measures greater than cheekbones, which measure larger than the forehead.
- Round: Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than the forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The angle of the jaw is soft and much less defined.
- Heart: Forehead measures greater than the cheekbones and jawline. The chin is pointed.
- Square: All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp rather than rounded.
- Diamond: Face length measures largest. Then, in descending order: cheekbones, forehead, and smallest jawline. The chin is pointed.
Now that you know how to find the right frames for your face shape, you will be able to find a frame that naturally flows with your face shape and compliments your face shape and size. These rules are valid for sunglasses as well.
